Epidemiological Study of Mental Disorders in Koreans in Yanbian, China

Abstract

|
We conducted an epidemiological survey of the lifetime prevalence of psychiatric disorders among Koreans living in Yanbian, China using the Korean version of the Diagnostic Interview Schedule (DIS-III). Subjects were selected by a three-staged
random
sampling procedure and a total of 2.701 Korean adults were interviewed.
Results indicated the following prevalence rates: alcoholic disorders (18.6%), generalized anxiety disorder (3.8%), phobic disorder (3.4%), cognitive impairment (2.4%), somatization disorder (1.6%), dysthymia (1.5%), panic disorder (1.2%),
affective
disorders (0.7%), obsessive-compulsive disorder (0.7%), schizophrenia (0.5%) and pathological gambling (0.3%). The data were compared with information compiled from Koreans living in Korea.
